Planning Protocol 2 Inc. (PP2) was established in February, 1998 by Mr. Rod Potrie. The firm provides a range of land development consulting services including Area Structure Plans, Concept Schemes, and Redevelopment Plans, Land Use Bylaw review and updates, applications for rezoning, subdivision, and development permits, site analysis, feasibility studies, architectural controls and project management. Since its establishment, the company has worked on over 400 projects throughout Alberta and beyond. Projects have included industrial, commercial, and residential land uses. Our diverse client base ranges from municipalities to land developers, as well as land owner both large and small. The firm is currently staffed with urban and rural planning, drafting and GIS personnel with a diverse range of experience.
Rodney Potrie MCIP,RPP, BaSc, CET, AODA President & CEO
Rodney is president of Planning Protocol 2 Inc with over 20 years of land use planning experience throughout Calgary and southern Alberta. Prior to Planning Protocol, Rodney was the Planning Manager for the Municipal District of Foothills and the Manager of Planning services for Challenger Geomatics Ltd.
His extensive background includes roles in both the public sector and private sector, providing him unique insight into both sides of the land use development practice. Rodney is a full member of the Canadian Institute of Planners and Alberta Professional Planners Institute, holds a diploma in Civil Engineering Technology (Okanagan College) and both a Bachelor of Arts and Science as well as courses in the Masters of Planning program from the University of Calgary.
Tom makes things happen for our clients. Whether it's preparing municipal land use, subdivision or development applications, managing 3rd party work or presenting at public appeals, Tom is at heart of the action positioning our clients for success!
His extensive experience in direct public service roles has helped him become a skilled communicator and diplomat with a variety of stakeholders. He understands the importance of public engagement early in the development process so as to encourage dialogue and reach the best outcome for everyone.
Tom completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Calgary (2011) where he had the opportunity to facilitate a community visioning project for Winston Heights/Mount view & Tuxedo Park, present an "Urban Gondola" concept to Calgary Transit as well as contribute to policy within the Brentwood Station Area Mobility Assessment & Plan.
Nicole started with Planning Protocol 2 at the beginning of 2015. What began as a temporary six month stand in, has now turned into a full time position at PP2. She spent time traveling all over the world after graduating high school and learned about the architecture that it has to offer. She has a good eye and pays close attention to detail.
Nicole is considered the “Jill” of all trades when knowing about her list of talents and hobbies which include: drawing, painting, sewing, knitting, party planning / executing, construction / building, and aesthetics. Nicole is a graduate from the University of Utah. She has 4 degrees, all centering around architectural technology and design. Being immersed in the construction / building and design business at a young age, it was inevitable that she fall into a career where she could use her talents at their full potential.
Stian French Planning Technician
Stian joined Planning Protocol 2 in 2015 and is excited to contribute his talents to the team. He primarily creates, modifies, and reviews AutoCAD and Revit drawings, but also assists the company by completing tasks assigned to him. Stian has begun his post-secondary education and uses the knowledge that he's acquiring to help further advance the company in its various projects.
